The Center for Asian Studies sponsors major international conferences
and faculty research initiatives to increase awareness and understanding
of issues Asian-related. The Centers collaborative public policy
research projects and conferences are designed to:
1. Increase awareness and understanding of issues of vital interest
to U.S.-Asia partnerships.
2. Conduct analyses and provide information to policymakers, researchers,
and students
3. Provide for a for scholars, journalists, and government officials
to debate relevant and timely issues.
4. Develop closer personal and professional relations among U.S.-Asia
specialists.
The Center for Asian Studies holds two major annual conferences, one
is a joint research project with Ritsumeikan University (Kyoto, Japan)
and Korea University (Seoul, Korea). This conference is held each year
on a rotating basis in Washington, D.C., Kyoto, or Seoul. The Center for
Asian Studies also holds a joint conference with the Yomiuri Shimbun in
Washington, D.C., or Tokyo in alternating years and frequently sponsors
a joint research conference with Kyungnam University. In addition to these
annual conferences, seminars and workshops are also organized by the Center
for Asian Studies. The following conferences, seminars, and institutes
have been recently organized by the Center.
